The University of Mississippi Amateur Radio Club
Amateur radio has a long history on the Ole Miss campus. The first club was organized in the early 1920's by Prof. Kennon. The club held the callsign W5YE.
For the last 25 years or so club activity on campus lapsed. In 2006 members of the Ole Miss, Oxford, and Lafayette County communities as well as others began to re-establish amateur radio at Ole Miss.
The club currently has about 20 members. Club members are faculty, staff, and students of the University of Mississippi and members of the Oxford/Lafayette County community. We meet on campus the first Monday of each month at 6pm.
Some of the club activities are; license classes and exams, Field Day, ARES and SKYWARN involvement, amateur radio presentations, and a weekly two meter net on the 147.33 PL107.2 W5LAF repeater.
Our members are active in a wide variety of amateur radio activities including; section activities, emergency communications, severe weather spotting, HHH net, DXing, contests, antenna building, VE testing, and maritime mobile operation. Each month a member gives a presentation at the club meeting on some topic in amateur radio.
We would love to hear from Ole Miss alumni that are amateur radio operators. Please drop us a line.
If you would like more information on amateur radio at the University of Mississippi please feel free to contact us.
See you on the bands!
